About LSAY

Privacy statement

Your privacy is very important to us.

Without the generous cooperation of the people who participate in the Longitudinal Surveys of Australian Youth (LSAY), the government could not use the information to assist young people. Your participation helps to ensure that LSAY accurately reflects the experiences of young Australians. LSAY would not be such a great success without valued participants like you. Your privacy is very important to us.

All the people who work on LSAY - including the people from Wallis Consulting Group who interview you, the people who help manage and report on research using the LSAY information at NCVER, and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) who provide the funding for the project - are bound by the Privacy Act and must go through regular training about the steps they must take to protect your privacy.

The information that you provide can only be used to produce statistics. In other words, it can be used to describe or analyse the characteristics only of groups, not individuals, households, or specific schools. Here are some steps we take to ensure that your information does not fall into the wrong hands, even accidentally:

  • At Wallis Consulting Group your name is not stored with your survey answers so no one can know how you respond.
  • Wallis Consulting Group does not sell or provide your name to any mailing lists, organisations, or government agencies.
  • The contact information Wallis Consulting Group collects as part of the LSAY study is stored on a separate system, which is different from the day-to-day office network accessible via e-mail and the internet.
  • The people who analyse the LSAY data at NCVER don't even know your name or have any way to identify you.
